The unsustainable use of cooling water in some European countries – e.g. Germany, United Kingdom (England and Wales), Bulgaria and Belgium – leads to the introduction of a new European tax on water abstraction for non-consumptive uses (e.g. industrial plants often require high-purity cooling water).
