New Diseases Caused by Environmental Pollution
Description
(approx. 150 words)
Please describe the Wild Card (approx. 150 words)
Environmental pollution rises immensely due to a higher energy production relying on conventional technologies such as coal-fired power plants. Moreover, the traffic volume grows while sticking to the combustion motor. New life-threatening diseases are created and existing health problems and diseases caused by environmental pollution become worse and more wide-spread. Eventually, sustainability becomes much more important to society.

Historical parallels
In the 1970ies and 1980ies, there was a focus on the relation of diseases and environmental pollution, nevertheless there were rather no diseases detected that were exclusively proven to be initiated by environmental pollution, so that attention to the topic diminished.
